Description
Introducing the Yamaha GC30A The Yamaha GC30A is one of Japan's foremost high-end models, reflecting the superb build quality of artisans wholly devoted to the craft of instrument making. In April 1966, Yamaha established a guitar research division and began research into the development of handcrafted guitars. From October of that same year through 1967, Yamaha (Hamamatsu) invited Eduardo Ferrer, a Spanish master luthier of the Torres lineage, to teach the craft of building guitars in the Spanish tradition. Drawing on the skills learned from these artisans, the first Grand Concert guitars — the GC5, GC7 and GC10 — were born in November 1967. These three models, based on the authentic Spanish style, had a major influence on later Yamaha guitar lines. Building on this foundation of traditional Spanish technique, Yamaha continued to experiment and research, gradually grasping the relationships between material, structure and sound, as well as between the manufacturing process and sound. Furthermore, in 1973, Manuel Hernández came to Japan and taught his techniques in Hamamatsu. This became the starting point for the creation of a new sound, and Yamaha continued to research and develop in the pursuit of distinctive tones. By 1974, Yamaha had unveiled three custom guitar models — the GC30A/30B/30C — with their own unique voices. The sound of these three models continued to be researched and refined, and was carried on in the GC50/60/70, GC61 and GC62 models introduced in 1983. Also in 1983, the GC71 — praised by the celebrated performer Andrés Segovia — was brought to market.
